Push-Up Back Pain Introduction

If you’re experiencing back pain during a push-up, first start with the plank intervention and press intervention, then make the modifications below.

Modification #1 - Lower Intensity and Leave Reps in Reserve

For the first modification, you will lower the intensity by dropping your knees and also leaving some reps in reserve. So, if you normally fatigue at 8 reps, you’re only going to do 6.
