  • Have You Eaten Swiss Chard? I Could Use Your Input.

Posted by Ashley on November 7, 2021 at 9:03 pm

So I recently bought some swiss chard, but I’ve never actually used it for a meal before. At the farmer’s market, I was told that it’s bitter and that some people prefer to cook it like spinach if it’s not used in a salad, so I’m looking for ideas of how to eat, cook, and prepare it!

    Hi Ashley

I actually sautee it with some olive oil and garlic, then add some salt and a good squeeze of lemon at the end. Enjoy as a side to any meal.

Or it can be used in soups or curries.

My favourite soup recipe: Sautee onion, garlic, cubed potatoes and carrots, chard, cumin salt black pepper and cooked green lentils. Add veggie stock and allow it all to simmer until cooked. Done! Add lemon if you like too it’s amazing.

    Hi Zahra,

Thank you so much for replying! I have all the ingredients to try it as a side dish first. 🙂 And, funny enough, I’ve been craving soup too, so you’re right on time with this recipe!

(P.S. Thanks for specifying cubed potatoes because I definitely would have thrown some big ol’ chunks in there! LOL)

Replying to this because it caught my eye, as I just ate a bunch of red chard in a salad! Raw or sauteed, I really enjoy the flavor and give it to my 13-month old as well.
